The Municipality
of Calaca in coordination
with the Provincial Veterinary Office has been serious with its campaign
against rabies. The group together with
the members of the Municipal Rabies Coordinating Council held a rabies
information-education campaign on March 10 this year at the municipal gymnasium
for the benefit of pet owners in the first target area, the Poblacion
barangays. The said activity held has a theme “Working together for Rabies Free
Philippines” in connection with the celebration of the month of March as Rabies
Awareness.
Attendees of the said activity are LUNAS Kalusugan Leaders,
Barangay Animal Health Workers, representative from DepEd and residence of
Poblacion Barangays together with their pet dogs. Dog vaccinations followed and there were 125
dogs registered and vaccinated.
The
program embarked on a film showing about the acquisition of rabies and its
prevention. It also discussed Republic Act 9482 also known as Anti-Rabies Act
of 2007 making emphasis on the alarming cases of rabies and the possibility of
fatalities if wrong notions will not properly addressed. Dr. Rommelito R.
Marasigan from the Provincial Veterinary Office served as the lecturer.Major Renato C. Mercado, Calaca PNP Chief and
Dr. Sharon Ona, Calaca Municipal Health Officer were present in the occasion.
The program was initiated by the Municipal Agriculture Office headed by Mrs.
Alicia Cabrera in coordination with Hon. Brigido Casanova, Chairman, SB
Committee on Agriculture and the Provincial Veterinary Office.
