Vegetable Productions… Onward for More!!!

After a successful harvest festival on demo production of Lettuce (green variety) last July 4, Ona-Atienza’s administration never gets tired in uplifting the lives of the constituents using advance techniques in farming. This was proven after successive harvest festivals on demo farm by the office of the Municipal Agriculture together with Mayor Nas Ona, Vice Mayor Larry Atienza and members of the Sangguniang Bayan in different barangays where demo farms was established.

 Aside from lettuce try out, the agriculture staff had also the idea of producing cauliflower, cabbage and baguio beans to find out if these vegetables will grow in the locality. Indeed, their aspirations never failed for the demo production become successful. Last August 20 a fruitful harvest festival on cauliflower, (Mont blank variety) was held at barangay Putingkahoy. According to Jay Atienza, farm technician on the said project, cauliflower was available for harvest after 55 days.

 Besides cauliflower, another in demand kinds of vegetable was tried in barangay Puting Bato West thru the effort of Norie Baldrias, farm technician who assigned on cabbage and beans production. Another harvest festival was held in the mentioned barangay on September 4 where Mayor Ona had the opportunity of inviting his father together with Vice Mayor Atienza who was all surprised to the outcome of the dry run because for them, it is a realization of their aspirations for the production was doing well.

 Mrs. Baldrias however expressed that Cabbage (Gladiator variety) was ready for harvest after 75 days from the day it planted while beans (Norman variety) was available within 45-50 days. The latter also added that the said vegetables are possible to produce in Calaca only if people will show willingness even without considering the humidity of the place.

The Local Chief Executive was really overwhelmed to the success of the project and even getting more intensive to pursue additional vegetable productions for the realization of his next big dream for Calaca, the “ONA Barangay ONA Produkto” and very positive that this will happen very soon.
